about
the major thrust of this site is to fill a void i’ve noticed in the sports realm – Black Vegans – where y’all at? and i know we play more sports than basketball and track.
i’ve decided to start with myself. so, follow me through my thoughts and challenges, through training and competitions. i also like to “connect the dots” between culture, environment and health. stay a while. its a little lonely here, so please share your comments. hopefully through witty exchange of ideas and frustrations, this blog will:
- promote a healthier, natural lifestyle (diet, exercise, environment) within the Black community, world-wide
- inspire and celebrate the achievements of fellow Black vegan athletes (any sport, any skill level–from “weekend warriors” to “Olympians“)
- highlight Black folks’ involvement in multisports
- inspire a deep(er) appreciation for the environment (i.e. lifestyle change, activism, etc.)
p.s. cheerleaders are welcome (to cheer and b/c they’re athletes too)

hey sis.
please, stay a while and enjoy. you are extremely welcome. i attempt to put as much resources in the blog roll and links portion of the blog that i can find. i’m always on the look out for more –as a lifelong student — so if you find anything that you think is important, feel free to share. also don’t be shy. feel free to leave comments throughout. as you will see i have a mixture of my personal training experiences, general health issues and cultural critiques.
there are some great resources on become a veggie. be sure to order your free vegetarian starter kit or simply download it. i really like this vegan starter kit. i found that people choose a plant/fruit based diet for various reasons (ethical, religious, spiritual, health, etc.) while i have been exposed to some of the spiritual and martial arts reasonings, the health conscious piece has been my motivation and has allowed me to progress through different diets (vegetarian, vegan, maybe raw foods one day). whatever the reason, its cool that you are seriously considering the change for yourself.

Thanks Bro
I am really enjoying reading your blog. I just finsihed my first “Raw Food Challenge” which consisted of 21 days of raw foods, sponsored by a local vegan restaurant in Baltimore, Md. I can’t say I was 100% but I did manage to reamin 80-95% raw and 90-100% vegan for the days we did it, and that’s what has sparked my quest. I found a lovely link to the Vegan hip hop movement on your blog and they are now added to my myspace page and I emailed the Black girls Rock website about stocking some plus size t’s and they responded that they would make one just for me, so brother, Thank You for the lifeline. I will be checking you out from now on, and by the way…may you have a prosperous and delightful NEW YEAR!!!

You will have to forgive the name, I was trying to log into your blog and did not realize that I misspelled it, thus leading me to unwittingly sign up for a blog. So not only is this my first visit to a blog ever but now apparently I have blog too, (Im trying to figure out way to delete it but it won’t let me know)
Anyway I’m so glad you started this blog, it’s absolutely wonderful and you are a wonderful writer as well…do you think our enslaved ancestors would have imagined a future where black folks are talking about cycling, veganism, and host of other crunchy topics…
In terms of the biking, I’m looking forward to a season of lots of pain and lots of glory…we will support each other.

Hey, sending some vegan love to you. I am a black vegan woman who just wanted to send some support. I understand what you go through when people think you are being “difficult” at dinner parties and gatherings when you want to make sure you can eat something…. anyway just thought your blog was cool.
Comment by KALI— February 2, 2008 #

Peace bro!! Thank you for checking out my blog. I’m linking to your blog. I am a fellow black NYC-based raw vegan athlete. I do Capoeira and Kung Fu, and I bike almost everywhere too (my bike is my car). Right now I train four days a week but might soon change that to six. I’m very excited to see you doing the work, training hard, inspiring other Afrikans to get healthy and strong. That in itself is a most crucial act in the revolution. My blog is discussing similar issues. Be in touch!

Just switched to a natural lifestyle and was blessed enough to find your blog. What sucks is that when you do a google search for “black vegans” the top link is to why are there so few black vegans! Madness! But for real, I’m diggin the blog and all your links.

Great site because I too, was wondering what happened to Black vegans.
I decided to transition after reading and watching some videos from Dr. Sebi and feeling better myself after changing my diet in terms of goodness for me and the community and environment at large.
Now that I’m training for Athletics, I feel better than ever while working out, thinking and working through a day.
I look forward to reading more on this site.

Have you checked out Vegans of Color (http://vegansofcolor.wordpress.com/)? Good, thoughtful, sometimes intense, discussion of not only veganism, but also the various other issues with which persons of colour who happen to be vegan are faced. Though I’m not a person of colour (I don’t think pinkish is included…:>)), my partner is a visible minority, and much of what is discussed on Vegans of Color resonates strongly.
All the best.

Hmm it appears like your site ate my first comment (it was extremely long) so
I guess I’ll just sum it up what I had written and say, I’m thoroughly enjoying your blog.
I too am an aspiring blog blogger but I’m still new to the whole thing. Do you have any tips for inexperienced blog writers? I’d certainly
appreciate it.
